Foundation for Effective Governance

On October 3, 2014, the Alfred Friendly Press Partners and the ImpactMedia program of the Foundation for Effective Governance (FEG)  announced a new fellowship to foster quality economic journalism in Ukraine.

In its first year, Press Partners will award the 2014 FEG Ukrainian Economics Fellow to one journalist participating in the Impact Media Project. That Fellow will work alongside top American economic reporters in a U.S. newsroom for five months with tailored training seminars aimed at complementing the hands-on newsroom experience.

“We are delighted to be working in Ukraine with such an outstanding journalism organization.” said Press Partners Board President Randy Smith. “Our foundation has been planting the seeds of quality international journalism for 30 years, and many of our Fellows are now in senior and influential media positions around the world. We look forward to making a similar impact in Ukraine in the decades to come.”

“The fellowship is an unprecedented opportunity for Ukrainian journalists to obtain practical hands-on experience covering economics in a rigorous environment of a U.S. newsroom, said  Natalya Izosimova,  director of the Foundation for Effective Governance. “It is a great privilege for us to sponsor the first Ukrainian Press Fellow in the Press Partner’s 30 years. We believe the partnership with the Alfred Friendly Press Partners and the introduction of the program in Ukraine will one day help foster quality economics journalism across the whole country.”

“The FEG Ukrainian Economics Fellowship will focus on ways to ethically and responsibly cover the economic challenges facing Ukraine and to report the major financial news that impacts the global economy. The Ukrainian fellow will return to their home newsroom armed with new financial reporting resources, economic story ideas and sources,” said Press Partners Executive Director Kathleen Graham.

The partnership is underwritten by the Foundation for Effective Governance and administered by the Alfred Friendly Press Partners.
