Announcing the 2025 Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship

Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship 2025 Application

Alfred Friendly Press Partners has brought nearly 400 journalists from 90 countries to the US for journalism training for 40 years. We changed our training in 2024 because autocracy had created significant challenges for journalists worldwide.

In June 2025, Alfred Friendly Press Partners is planning a month-long training program at the Missouri School of Journalism for journalists in exile in the U.S. The program is looking to build skills and resiliency in these areas: Security, Legal, Journalism and Climate.

Beyond the training, our goal is to create community amongst a diverse group of journalists facing many similar obstacles. One topic – the psychosocial aspects of exile – will be embedded throughout many of
our conversations, beginning the first day.

We will be selecting 10 fellows and two backups in case someone must cancel. Essential expenses – housing, food, transportation – will be covered. English proficiency will be required. All finalists will be interviewed by the selection committee. If you are interested in our program, please fill out this application. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Randy Smith at: smithrandall@missouri.edu

Deadline for submitting the application is midnight, January 30, 2025.

One last word: Applicants may find that they can’t answer some of these questions due to their exile. If that’s so in your case, please do not let this discourage you. Simply tell us in a few sentences the reasons that you are unable to provide the information. Reach out if you have any questions.
