Ghazi came to the US with limited English skills but lots of reporting expertise. He was a trusted fixer for NYT and Washington Post reporters in Kabul and a reporter for Afghan media. He has covered countless tragedies and helped families look through morgues for their loved ones. What he has seen, he said, is unimaginable to most people. He currently reports for Voice of America and has been at the Missouri School of Journalism since 2022 under the care of Professor Kathy Kiely, a Knight chair at Missouri.
