Next year the Alfred Friendly Press Partners will celebrate three decades of an extraordinary exchange of knowledge and bonds between the U.S. and journalists in emerging nations around the world.

Three hundred fellows from 78 countries have worked in American partner newsrooms. Our year-long 30th Anniversary celebration will honor the fellows, our media partners and the remarkable changes that have occurred in journalism and in the world’s emerging nations since the inception of the Friendly Fellowship program in 1983.

The last year was a time of change. We became the Alfred Friendly Press Partners, to recognize the strong partnerships we have and seek with many outside organizations. We unveiled a new website, a logo and a motto, Lifting up Journalism Around the World. We chose a new executive director, Kathleen Graham, who brings a distinguished background in administration, fundraising and journalism programming.

But amid all that is new, we have stuck with Al and Jean Friendly’s belief that individuals make the difference. We respect our Fellows and our partners as unique human beings. We reach out to you because you share that belief.

This year’s goal is to raise $50,000. The Friendly family and Board Member Pat Stueve’s family have generously agreed to match contributions up to $20,000. That means your gift will have double the impact!   Please take just a minute to think about how important the fellowship has been to you and your career and consider making a donation so other journalists may benefit from the program.

When you give to the Alfred Friendly Press Partners, you are lifting up journalism around the world.

Best wishes for a good holiday and a happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Jonathan Friendly, Chairman and Randy Smith, President
